This 150-acre brownfield site was the home of the former Stanton Iron Works, a flange and pipe manufacturing facility, and former tip areas used for disposing of asbestos containing materials.

John F Hunt Regeneration were engaged as Principal Contractors to deliver the design and construction of remediation, earthworks and infrastructure works for commercial end-use. The finished development will provide a new, strategic distribution hub for the Midlands, comprising three serviced development plots, capable of accommodating buildings from 11,000 square feet up to one million square feet, with a dedicated rail hub.

Description of Work

Earthworks and Remediation Works

  • Site clearance and tree protection works
  • Excavation, processing and filing of material to make up site levels – circa 450,000m³
  • Turnover and re-engineering of underlying Made Ground
  • Breakout of concrete hardstandings and removal of relict foundations and obstructions to 3m depth and processing to produce granular materials
  • Remediation of contaminated hotspots encountered
  • Management of any asbestos impacted materials.

Infrastructure Works

  • Construction of 2km of on-site estate roads
  • Provision of services and drainage including:
    • Surface water
    • Foul drainage and pump stations
    • High Voltage and water supply
  • Section 278 works including construction of two major new site entrances and other off-site highway improvements.
